State of AI 2025 (from AI Conference in San Francisco) Siloed Data is AI’s Kryptonite
I’m just back from the AI Conference in San Francisco. The conversation centered, unsurprisingly, on the rise of agentic workflows, and the core problem these cause us to confront: Data.
The most compelling presentations came from vendors innovating steps ahead of where Enterprise AI is now— focusing on the most daunting and complex challenges of governance and data unification.
That is, organizing, integrating making sense of—the complex spaghetti pie that lives inside every large organization today.
Knowledge graphs, federated data, semantic data layers were discussed widely, but the vendors who tied their best-in-class features directly to enterprise challenges and outcomes won the prize for “most in demand slide photo”.
Key takeaway: Capabilities like these may be frontier now, but will soon become table stakes as agentic workflows and teaming become more commonplace.
Over two days, two slides captured the essence of the market - where we are now, where we’re headed, and what challenges we’ll confront along the way.
1) A steep up and to the right curve showing
2) 3 blocks representing data’s consumption points - analytics, workflows, agents … with a hundred of strands tying to dozens of applications and 3rd party data sources where it lives. Heading: Agents can’t make sense of the enterprise data mess.
